Your Exercise & Weight Management Questions Answered
Q. I recently started a new exercise routine, reduced my food intake and cut out junk food, but because I am used to over-eating I feel hungry all the time. Is there anything I can take to help normalise my appetite?
A. Radiance® Hoodia PowerSlim contains Hoodia gordonii extract, from a succulent plant used for centuries by the San Bushmen of South Africa as a way of controlling hunger and thirst during hunting expeditions. Hoodia contains active constituents that aid in energy production and aid the brain in sensing that glucose levels are high enough, so that the message to ‘eat more’ is not triggered. In this way it can assist people to comfortably reduce their food volume to normal, healthy levels.
Q. What can I take to help keep my energy levels up now that I have started exercising more regularly?
A. The first thing to consider taking is a multivitamin and mineral supplement. A good multi should provide you with adequate doses of all ‘the basics’ plus more. Radiance® Multi Power provides all the B vitamins required for food metabolism and energy production; a full range of minerals including iodine, zinc and selenium – deficient in New Zealand soils; spirulina, alfalfa, barley grass and chlorella for added nutrition and body cleansing; antioxidants alpha lipoic acid, green tea and milk thistle; plus enzymes to help you break down and absorb these nutrients. Radiance® Multi Power is a one a day, ‘feel the difference’ formula that offers superior nutritional support to athletes and regular exercisers (and its sugar, dairy and gluten free!).
Q. I am a 32 year old female and have just started training for the Auckland half marathon, is there anything I need to be aware of nutritionally?
A. There are many factors to take into consideration when it comes to exercise and nutrition. One of these is your mineral intake. The demand for minerals is increased by exercise (energy production, tissue repair, growth) and some minerals are lost through sweating including iron, magnesium, calcium and zinc. A common mineral deficiency in female athletes, particularly runners, is iron. As well as being lost through sweat, exercise increases the production of red blood cells and this increases the demand for iron. If you are feeling tired all the time, even though you get enough sleep, look pale, feel as though you are unable to take a full breath and/or have a ‘brain fog’ you may be suffering from iron deficiency. Radiance® Women’s Iron Complex is a formula especially designed for women, containing female tonic Dong Quai, plus iron in a highly absorbable, non-constipating form, alongside essential blood building nutrients folic acid and vitamin B12.
