Alpha lipoic acid is an antioxidant highly recommended
for diabetics
|
Initially discovered in 1951 acting as a cofactor in energy production, scientists realised in the late 1980s that alpha-lipoic acid (LA) also possessed potent antioxidant properties that could prevent healthy cells from being damaged by unstable oxygen molecules called free radicals1. Alpha-lipoic acid is uniquely fat and water soluble earning it the name “universal antioxidant” because it can rapidly penetrate all portions of the cell, providing protection within the lipid cell membrane, as well as the aqueous compartment and the nucleus2.
The benefits of this solubility are enormous when we look at the aging process. Two major contributors to the aging process are free radical damage and inflammation. Any reduction in free radical and inflammatory cell damage may therefore help us age more gracefully and more healthfully. A powerful antioxidant in its own right it also recycles and regeneratesother antioxidants such as vitamins E and C, Co-Q10 and glutathione, enhancing their availability and effectiveness.
Radiance® AlphaProtect brings you the antioxidant benefits of 250mg Alpha-lipoic acid.
