Did you know. . . .
. . . .that osteoporosis is actually considered to be a paediatric (childhood) disorder?
Peak bone mass is reached between 18 and 25, by the age of 30 – 35 bone loss has already begun. So the real time to prevent osteoporosis is during childhood and the teen years.
Soft drinks packed with caffeine (35 – 80mg), sugar (about 10 teaspoons per 300ml) and phosphoric acid can increase calcium excretion (loss) to a whopping 30mg per hour.
Diet soda also increases calcium loss and adds a whole raft of additional risk factors associated with aspartame consumption. Our bones are constantly acquiring and releasing calcium, so children need to future proof their bones by eating a balanced diet which includes calcium rich green leafy vegetables, sweet potatoes, oranges, oily fish with soft bones, (dairy foods in moderation), whilst participating in regular resistance exercise, and avoiding “bone robbers” like soft drinks.
Fussy eaters may benefit from taking a bone boosting dietary supplement such as Radiance® Kid's Bone
